YOU CAN GO HOME AGAIN

BY CHEYANNE

THEY SAY YOU CAN'T GO HOME AGAIN

IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME

THE BEST OF MY HOMETOWN IS GONE

AND I WONDER WHO'S TO BLAME

THERE IS A WHATABURGER

WHERE JO AND ART'S ONCE STOOD

I WORKED THERE AS A CARHOP

OH, THE FIFTIES WERE SO GOOD

TEEN-AGERS GALORE

WOULD SIT ON THE HOODS OF THEIR CAR

AND LAUGH, FLIRT AND SING

TO THE JUKEBOX OR A GUITAR

THERE IS A CAR REPAIR SHOP

IN PLACE OF THE SKATING RINK

WHERE WE MET BOYS ON FRIDAY NIGHT

AND I GOT MY FIRST GROWN-UP WINK

WE'D DRAG THE ROBIN AND SAMMY'S

ALL PILED UP IN THE CAR

GAS WAS A QUARTER A GALLON THEN

SO IT NEVER MATTERED HOW FAR

WE DROVE...TO THE CITRIANA

BACK AND FORTH IN A RUT

ON TO THE CHUNG MEI DRIVE IN

IT'S BEEN REPLACED BY A PIZZA HUT

ON HACKBERRY AND TENTH ONE NIGHT

I SAT IN UTTER BLISS

AS ELVIS SANG "HEARTBREAK HOTEL"

I GOT MY FIRST GROWN-UP KISS

THE CACTUS DRIVE-IN THEATER

(AND NO!  IT ISN'T BUNK)

SOME OF THE KIDS GOT IN FREE

BY HIDING IN THE TRUNK!

IT'S GONE NOW TOO, I HEAR

WALMARTS CAME TO TOWN

I'M GLAD I DIDN'T SEE THE CHANGE

"IT" STANDS ON HALLOWED GROUND

WHOEVER SAID IT WAS WRONG

YOU CAN GO HOME, I FIND

TURN ON THE MEMORY MACHINE

AND IT'S ALL THERE IN YOUR MIND

CLEAR, INTACT AND WONDERFUL

I SEE OLD FRIENDS HAPPY FACES

READ THESE WORDS AND COME WITH ME

TO VISIT THOSE LONG AGO PLACES!
